I always put up a “fall” Christmas tree! Decorated with fall ornaments and ornaments that my daughter, mom and myself make out of pine cones, nuts etc. Then we take the fall ornaments off the day after Thanksgiving and replace them with our Christmas ornaments!

I love this idea! I’ve thought about doing a year round tree for every Holiday (how cute would Valentine’s, Easter, Halloween, etc. be!) but I’d never thought about just doing it for Fall and then Christmas. Thanks!

There are so many traditions that I love it’s hard to pick just one. I guess I’d have to go with our traditional Christmas morning breakfast (Barefoot Contessa recipes) @ home just the 4 of us. It is so rare to have any time for just the 4 of us durring the week of Christmas as we are usually running from house to house to do Christmas with family. Our laid back Christmas morning is time that would never want to miss. Just my husband, kids & I (plus the cats).

We also watch old homemade videos from when my cousins and I were little. It’s a fun time had by all every year!

I love spending time with my family!! We all live in different states and it’s nice to get together with everyone for Christmas. I also love giving, whatever I can, to a less fortunate family. This year has been really tough for my family, but thanks to couponing, I have enough stock pile items to donate some food and health & beauty items. I would really love to win this mixer as I gave my brand new one to my best friend a few years ago. She really needed something to brighten her day because her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She loves to bake and I knew one of these would come in handy for her. I had gotten one as a gift that year and instead of keeping it for myself, I gave it to her and it felt really good doing that! There are times now where I wish I had one, but I would never take back what I did for my friend. Unfortunately, her mother just lost her long battle to cancer 2 months ago.

We always bake for the nurses and doctors at the hospital who took such great care of me when I was very ill and needed a life saving 4 organ transplant. My favorite holiday tradition is cooking our turkey (plus pork, roast, sweet potatoes, etc.) in our imu (Polynesian underground oven). Yup, just like how you see at the luaus on TV, my family cooks our Thanksgiving food underground – it just doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving if we don’t have kalua turkey! It’s a long process of re-digging the hole, removing any weeds/dead grass/debris, building a fire, putting the rocks in, preparing the meat by placing them in pans with lots of layers of tin foil, and then placing the pans on the rocks when the rocks are hot enough. After that, several layers of banana leaves, potato sacks (that have been soaked in water), and, lastly, dirt seals up the imu. It takes about 4-5 hours for all the food to cook. The result: a moist, tender, fall-off-the bone turkey with unforgettable island flavor! Yum, yum :)

Every Christmas Eve, we go to church as a family and after the service, we all receive a glass with a candle in it. We always see who is able to get their candles home and in the house without them blowing out (which is a challenge in the snow and wind). Once inside, we get our pj’s on and turn out all the lights except for our candles and the Christmas tree and sit quietly for a while.

My favorite family tradition is cooking with my mom. Nothing says holidays like preparing delicious food with a loved one, for loved ones. With my husband recently laid off, my family has been left in a state of financial despair. We’re left unable to christmas shop at all, even for our two daughters. We will appreciate getting together for the holidays this year, more than most, because its all we have to look forward to. To win this would be such a blessing, words can’t even describe. I love all of your giveaways, post ect to help families that need all the help they can get. Thank for the giveaway! God Bless!

My favorite traditions are on Christmas Eve. After attending the candlelight service at church, we come home and each person gets to open a wearable gift. It’s usually pj’s that they can wear to open gifts on Christmas morning. Then they get to open up a new ornament that represents something they have done that year. My husband then reads the story “Tale of Three Trees” to the kids. We round out the evening by making s’mores in the fireplace and tracking Santa online.

This is what I do for Christmas since money is so tight I bake and give it all away (helps me maintain my weight better that way too!) to our friends and family members. This year it’s no bakes, gingerbread cookies, molasses, choco chip, fudge, and breads all being baked and given out. This prize would be a tremendous help!!

I would love for our favorite family tradition to be to have all of our 7 children and their families together at one time – any time – any place. It is so hard when they’re all spread out and spread thin with their own traditions. But my favorite tradition is after the tree is decorated, to turn out all other lights, put on Christmas music, pour a glass of wine (or a cup of hot choclate – depending on the mood) and just bask in the glow of the holiday.

My favorite tradition (which hubby just can’t stand but goes along with because he loves me) is the 24 hour marathon of A Christmas Story on TV- as long as I can remember, my sister and I would leave it running for as long as it was on- even leaving the TV on while we slept. Since we cut cable to save money, my super-sweet hubby even got a copy of it on dvd so I can keep the tradition going :)

We have a few holiday traditions: The town’s Christmas parade where 2 of the 3 kids will be represented, Christmas eve dinner and “gramma” presents, and when we have the money, a trip to Disneyland. We went to Disneyland last year – it was the first trip for our youngest – and it was memorable. We all won’t forget when he met Mickey Mouse for the first time.
The next week, we found out he has autism. It gave us a moment to celebrate as a “normal” family. It will be our last one.
