I had the great opportunity to play the new Monopoly with the electronic banking from Hasbro and had a blast. It’s so cool and easy to use. The board and pieces are all sleek and spiffy and the ‘chance’ and ‘community chest’ cards are updated, as are the game pieces (jet, rollerblade, cell phone…).

The cards are all the same size and shape for much more convenient storage and the pricing scheme is simplified. Gone are the days of 5 1′s, 5 5′s, 6 20′s, 2 50′s, 2 100′s, and 2 500′s. You now start with $15 million on a banking card and everything is processed by millions and hundreds of thousands. The real draw of this updated twist on the great classic is that payments and money transfers are all conveniently processed with a simple to use electronic device. Take money off of a card and put it onto another player’s and listen to the electronic dings as the money changes hands and fates.

It’s more exciting watching the digital display of what remains on your card drop, or escalate depending on your luck and business savvy. I love this new version. It’s not only more fun, but so much easier to keep track of everything, no money, just one stack of cards– and the houses and hotels are even cooler than they used to be.
