Mr.Savvy ( my now hubby) and I met working at Disneyland back in 2006. We were friends for years before dating when we finally decided to date we soon realized two things -
1) Mr.Savvy’s cooking abilities were limited to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Top Ramen soup.
2) We did not have a lot of money… Scratch that… We barely had two nickles to rub together.
My culinary creativity kicked in and I started developing yummy dishes on a budget – one of our favorites was “Fancy Hot Dogs – Poor Man’s Beef Stroganoff”.
Very simple to make and ready under 20 minutes + it is a dish your family will love. Feel free to pair this dish with pasta and some veggies
I use gluten -free hot dogs and pasta now and it works out great
What You Need
4 Large or 6 Normal Size Beef Hot Dogs
Pinch of Salt
1/2 Teaspoon of Pepper
1 Cup of “Finely Chopped Onions”
1 Clove of Garlic Minced
2/3 Cup of Sour Cream
1 Tablespoon of Butter or Margarine
1 Teaspoon of Finely Chopped Parsley.
Parmesan Cheese
What To Do
Slice Hotdog
Melt Butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 5 minutes then add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Add hot dogs to onions and garlic and cook till hot dogs have browned.
Add Sour Cream, salt, and pepper and mix and cook for additional 3 minutes.
Garnish with Parsley and Parmesan Cheese.
I suggest you serve the dish over pasta.

Just wanted to say that your recipes are fantastic! And also that I can totally relate, I met my husband my first day working at Disney World and his cooking techniques were just like Mr.Savvy´s!! Of course though working there was a blast, we made just enough to pay the bills. I cook alot better than when I got married 9 years ago and have a bigger budget to work with, but I still love making healthy dishes for my family and saving money. Thanks for this recipe… my husband LOVES hotdogs (back in when I met him that was about the only thing he used to spice up his romain noodles or rice). He´s gonna love this sophisticated version and it will be nice to bring back memories of cooking in our tiny apartment in Orlando!! Definately gonna be a follower of yours!
Such a sweet story
I hope your husband enjoys it.
Thank you so much for sharing this easy, but delicious recipe. My aunt & I always get together & make meals & the night we made it we didn’t really have anything planned. So I said I found this recipe on pinterest let’s try it out! At first my Uncle was like ewww hotdog meal with sour cream doesn’t sound good at all. My boys love hotdogs so when they asked what we were having we just said fancy hotdogs! Got it all on the table with some fresh bread & everyone gobbled it up. It was so good, I plan on making it again tomorrow! Thanks again for sharing I really enjoy your recipes!!
I am so glad you enjoyed it
