I have done this and it works!!! My lettuce stayed fresh for 9 days!!!

Wash, cut, your lettuce as normal. Pack it tightly in a glass mason jar – put the top on and put put it in your fridge. Open when you want some lettuce.

Will this work the same with the plastic mason jar lids? Or does the extended freshness have something to do with the metal lid? :)

Do I need to dry the lettuce before puttin the jar(s)?? Do you spin it to get some of the water off, or what?

I never dried it before putting it in the jar. I just shook it a little in a colander and then piled it in.

We cut our lettuce up and put it in a glass bowl with some paper towel over it and it stays fresh that long as well. Maybe you could try putting paper towel in the top of the mason jar to keep the moisture from building as well?
