How To Make Mason Jar Planters

March 26, 2013

Hi Sara here :)

Today is one of my favorite crafts — since you can up-cycle pasta sauce jars. This is a great craft to get kids started gardening

Enjoy the video and let me know what you think.

Oh and if you can spot Watson in the video you get a point :)

If you do make a planter please take a picture and put it on instagram or twitter – use the hashtag BudgetSavvyDiva so I can check it out :)

Those are really cute. Too bad Watson didn’t help you with them. I really like to see him interact with the camera.

These are really cute and would make a great Mothers Day gift for my 2nd grade Brownies to make for their mom’s..
I spotted Watson 2x’s 20 sec’s and 1:12. Watson seems like my Lucy Lou, always checking out what I’m doing. We adopted Lucy Lou a month ago after her owner was placed in a nursing home..

I’m guessing it would be a bad idea to put compost in this? And what about pebbles, instead of marbles?

I really like this and wish I would have found before planting my herbs. I would love to know what kind of plant the white flower is?

I did something similar, and then I made a wall garden out of it! Perfect way to save space and make a wall more fun :)

What a wonderful website! I cook with fresh herbs and the mason jars are perfect. Perfect gift for christmas for people who like to cook and nothing fresh to cook with. I’m off to Goodwill to find jars! Thank you

I have a ton of those fish tank pebbles (The colorful ones that you can buy for $2 and get a good size bag), Would they be too small for this project, or would water still be able to flow?

Jessy February 17, 2016 at 10:41 am

Thanks for your advise. Can we use any other kind of jars?

Carol Kryda February 18, 2016 at 12:28 am

Amazing to have seen your mason jar dye project TODAY. Because, last night I just happened to have placed an order online for Krylon spray seafoam seaglass. My plan was to do mason jars, tall clear bottles, and glass panes for my garden. Your project is adoreable, but, the Krylon product, will be so much easier, just as cheap, and will cover many jars, etc.
