Budgeting is tough for many of us. Especially when most of our expenses are fixed expenses that we have little control over how much they cost. Mortgage, car payments, utilities, etc. So when you need to look for places to cut back, your grocery budget comes into play. If you are looking to make cuts in your grocery budget, check out these tips to help you keep your budget in check and not overspend.

Do More Cooking

For those of you who don’t like to cook, or feel you don’t know how, a lot of your budget can get eaten up in convenience foods, which tend to cost more than ingredients you need to make something yourself. Try to do some convenience cooking like freezer cooking where you spend one day cooking for the week.

Batch Cooking

Speaking of freezer cooking, cooking in batches is also a great way to save money. If a certain item is on a great sale this week, stock up and make a few different meals from it, and freeze them until you are ready to eat them.

Meal Planning

Meal planning may feel like a waste of time, but planning out what you are going to be eating each week allows you to shop what is on sale at the store this week which can save you huge. And going to the store with a particular list of items will stop you from buying everything that looks good at the time.

Plan to Eat Leftovers

Some of you may hate the idea of leftovers, but if you plan leftovers into your weekly meal plan, you’d be surprised how much you can save. For example, maybe you have steak one night. Cook an extra steak and use it another night that week to make steak quesadillas. You don’t have to eat the exact same thing to have “leftovers”.
