It’s always great to tailgate for game time and indulge in awesome party grub, but the food doesn’t have to be that bad for you either.  Here are just a few hacks for creating a healthier party spread.

  1. Veggies.  Don’t just incorporate veggies, make them the foundation.  You can add to them and dress them up to varying degrees, but ensuring that they are a priority for each dish you offer will lead to better balance all around.
  2. Substitutions. Use a veggie alternative like getting your MorningStar Farms® Buffalo Wings, or making bacon out of eggplant instead of cute pigs.  Check out this offer from ibotta for a good start on your party planning.
  3. Light or no condiments.  You can always use a lite recipe for sauces and other condiments, but one great trick is to have a dish requiring little to no enhancement.  You may offer a slightly higher in calorie food that has no need for embellishment, rather than going too lean and overdoing the add ons.

One of my favorite healthier grub options for a game time celebration is MorningStar Farms Buffalo wings.  I went to my local Walmart to pick up my MorningStar Farms.

Wings usually come with celery and bleu cheese dressing.  The celery often is treated as just a garnish and the bleu cheese dip is not well controlled.  My solution is to chop up the celery and integrate it into the dish over a bed of jasmine rice with crumbled bleu cheese as an alternative to less healthy dip. Finish it off with a drizzle of buffalo hot sauce. Easy and delicious.

I like MorningStar Farms, because of the quality of their product.  They are a perfect as-is meal solution that is not just for vegetarians, but for anybody who wants to eat a little healthier now and then.

They are also America’s #1 Veggie Burger brand with a  Spicy Black Bean Burger, that you have to grill it to believe it.  It’s a real flame changer.  And now they have a new Veggie Pulled Pork option!
