There is a pretty funny story behind this recipe

Eric grew up eating Stouffers – he has talked about his LOVE for Stouffer’s Macaroni & Cheese on about a dozen different occasions while we were dating

So I have been playing with a few recipes – nothing quite right – each one not passing the Eric taste test

BUT FINALLY GUYS I DID IT!!!!

Eric tasted it and said it was a PERFECT match! As I took the pictures for this recipe – he was standing behind me with a fork so he could eat all the mac and cheese he could

He ate ALL 6 servings himself in 1 day – Whatever makes him happy right?

Stouffer's Macaroni & Cheese Recipe

Now this Stouffer’s Macaroni & Cheese recipe has evolved a ton from where I started out – but the final recipe is pretty prefection

I would find it difficult to make this dish gluten free since the Campbell’s Cheddar Cheese soup is NOT gluten – free

Stouffer's Macaroni & Cheese Recipe

This recipe is enough for 6 hungry people – I would pair it with a salad though — it is ALOT of cheese and carbs 😉

If you would like more copycat recipes please let me know

I know that Stouffer’s Macaroni & Cheese can easily be baked – this dish can easily be baked at 350 for 20 – 30 minutes to get that crispy top 🙂

I have been looking for this recipe for years! I too love Stouffer’s Mac & Cheese. I was just thinking about emailing you to request this the other day! Thank you sooooooo much!

    • Jeanne Anderson

I have made this several times. It was devoured every time! I made it tonight and added browned ground beef for cheeseburger macaroni. Soooo good!

  • Tanya

Thanks so much for sharing this recipe! Going to make it tonight for my two favourite people (hubby and toddler) that LOVE mac ‘n cheese as much as i do 🙂
I’m pinning and trying recipes that are quick, easy and freezable for when baby#2 joins us in a few months. Do you think this is one that can be made, frozen and thrown in the oven till warmed through?
    Thanks for posting and insight!

mmm…i love stouffers soo much! My second favorite is Amy’s macaroni and cheese…sooo tasty and probably a bit better for you than stouffers, but i’ll definitely be trying this recipe!

  • Kirsti

I made this and it was too easy and very yummy, you could swap out the cheese for a lux version. Don’t skip the dry mustard,it’s not one of those $8 spices, so get it. It was a little cheese soupy so I made 3 dry cups of pasta and it was perfect.

    • Marty

I have made your modification of the 3 cups instead of 2. I’ll give that a try next time and the consistency will be much better.

  • Carmen Lawrence

OMG so I had a hankering for Stouffer’s Mac & Cheese but I didn’t want to spend the big bucks for it…found this and OMG it is so easy to make and came out AMAZING! Thanks so much for coming up with it! It was great!

  • Carol

This sounds so good for a quick dish that will be enjoyed on a cold winter night.I cannot stress how many times I would dive into one of those Stouffer’s macaroni and love every minute of that, but have not done that for a long, long time. Canot wait to make this now- yum, yum YUM!

  • jill

Let me just say… That you NAILED this!!! I have been forever searching for a macaroni and cheese recipe that doesn’t get that nasty white congeal texture. My daughter and I test drove the recipe on a Saturday and by Wednesday were on our 3 lb batch for potluck this and potluck that. Thank you forever and ever for sweating this one out. Your breadcrumbless, non goop recipe will be my forever go to!

  • Julie

I made it with cavatappi pasta instead of elbows. 2 cups (dry) was not enough. I ended up needing 4 cups. Also, I used white pepper instead of black pepper. Other than that – yum! Very close to Stouffers! Next time, I will add a drop of hot sauce – not enough to taste hot, just enough to make the flavor sharper.

  • Angel

Oh my gosh! You have nailed this! I too am a lover of Stouffers. I just finished making your mac and cheese and I am in mac and cheese heaven. I have tried so many mac and cheese recipe’s only to be disappointed this is the only recipe for me. Thank you so much!

  • Karyn

At the top you said he ate 6 servings but this only calls for 2 cups of pasta. It doesn’t seem like that will make very much at all, but we’re going to give it a shot.

    • Karyn

Just responding to my own post the 2 cups really does swell up to a large amount. I also found that it needed quite a bit of salt added in order to get closer to the Stouffers taste. I also increased the amount of mustard powder. It’s pretty good not exact but better when it’s first made – I have frozen it and when reheated it seems to lose some of the flavor it originally had.

  • MIguel

I see in the pic there is 2% milk. I was wondering if that was okay since ingredients don’t say. Has anyone tried to freeze this yet and, if so, how was it? I plan on making this soon. I usually buy a few whenever they have Stouffers on sale but freezing would be nice to always have some on hand. Thanks.

Just made a batch to test for a b day party this weekend. OMG! So yummy. I have 12oz bags of noodles that when i measured out the 2 cups dry pasta left about an inch of pasta in the bag. I am going to use the whole bag next time since it was a little on the soupy side for my kids. But dinner is in an hour and everyone is full from “testing” this mac.

  • Krista

Just made this tonight for my daughters birthday. It’s so delicious! I used 3 cups of pasta (shells) and it was perfect. This will be my go to Mac n cheese!

  • heather

I made this for a birthday party last night. I didn’t test it first, just relied on the comments….it was a hit! A double batch was quickly gone. It really does taste like Stouffers!

  • Joanne

Omg I just whipped this up it is the best I have my own recipe my family likes but I like stouff erstwhile myself this will become a regular in my house thank you!

  • Bri

Awesome recipe! Everyone loves it and asks me to bring it to get togethers! Thank you for sharing! Great job!

  • Alix

I have been thawing out Stouffer’s and adding more cheese and a scant amount of finely chopped onions for years! Then I put it in a favorite baking dish, and top with more shredded cheese. Everyone just loves it and wants the recipe! Now I will have one to give them. LOL

  • Kel

Wow. Completely delicious, easy to make! I wanted to eat the whole pan. I am making it again this evening for my boyfriend. I did bake it in the oven for about 10 mins just to set the cheese a little and make it look oven-ish but either way oven or no oven, was spectacular.

  • Leslie

This was so very easy and good. I’m stocking up on cheddar cheese soup. We loved it. It was very close to Stouffer’s. It is now a family favorite. Thanks for the recipe.

  • Lina M

I made this the other day for a teachers’ appreciation luncheon. It was a hit! Everyone wanted the recipe and I gladly sent them this link..super quick and easy. My kind of cooking! Thanks so much for perfecting the recipe and to your hubby for his love of Stouffer’s Mac n Cheese…lol.

  • Jenn

I have a 13 year old son with Asperger’s, and Stouffer’s mac and cheese is one of the few foods he will eat. I made this, and I know it’s the right formula because he approved! Thanks so much for all the research you put into making this.

  • Virginia Vierra

I finally made this recipe as shown, except due to all the comments I added a quarter inch more macaroni then called for. I also put a tablespoon of Parmesan cheese in it because I could never leave any recipe alone. It’s an affliction. It is soooo tasty. I think compared to KFC and El Pollo Loco mac that i love because they are so creamy but not tasty this is better. I could have added 1/2 inch more pasta and it would be creamy still. I dont care for baked mac becuz it is dry and becomes a brick when cooled and the cheese clumps when reheated. This will be my go to mac recipe!!

  • Char

Went through many posts before settling on this Mac & Cheese recipe. It was excellent. Had to substitute Ragu Double cheese sauce in the jar. Forgot to pick that up @ the store. Made an extra one to take to a children’s’ birthday party. I know it will be a hit.

  • Kate

I LOVE this recipe! I have been seeking out my perfect Mac and cheese recipe for years. They are all either too dry, or not cheesy enough, or too salty etc etc. This one was fantastic! The family loved it!I used a habanero cheddar because it is what I had on hand and it gave it a nice bit of bite. Baked it with a few bread crumbs on top to give it a bit of crunch and it was awesome! Thank you for ending my search!

  • Em

I know this post is many years old but I went through some comments and noticed no one has commented AFTER making this recipe.. well I made this recipe and OH MY GOODNESS IT IS PERFECT! Stouffers mac n cheese is my guilty pleasure and this was the real deal! Only thing I did differently was make my own version of cheddar cheese soup (because I didn’t have any on hand). If you love stouffers, you’ll love this recipe:)

  • Thora Madden

I love ALL of you mac and cheese recipes! The Stouffers copycat was a big hit with everyone and especially at potluck. People were scraping to the very bottom for more. Love, love, love this recipe! And than you for sharing this!

  • Courtney

Wow! I’m a huge lover of Stouffers Mac also! Yum! This is the only recipe I’ve made that came close and better. Thanks for sharing!

  • Lauren B.

After all the Mac n Cheese recipes I’ve tried, finally one that the whole family LOVED!! It was well received by the very picky Mac n cheese Connoisseurs!! Thank you, will definitely make again.

  • Sheri Kibbe

I have been searching forever for a creamy homemade Mac N Cheese. Thank you so much for your trial and errors in coming up with this!! It’s perfect and doesn’t require a rue!!! Another great thing is you can use whatever cheese you want depending on how you want it to taste. I made the recipe according to directions and lived it as is. Next time I’m going to add a cup of gruyere cheese for a little smoky flavor. So many ways to play with this. Thank you again!! My search is finally over ❤️

  • Buku Mimpi

Oh my god! You have nailed this! I too am a lover of Stouffers. I just finished making your mac and cheese and I am in mac and cheese heaven. I have tried so many mac and cheese recipe’s only to be disappointed this is the only recipe for me. Thank you so much!

  • Jessica Adams Bradford

I can actually say that I can almost anything, but, a good macaroni and cheese. Until now.
I was needing a really good mac&cheese recipe to make a homemade tuna casserole. This turned out fantastic.
I did make homemade condensed cheddar cheese soup, though.

Therefore, I went with 1/2 cup of whole mil, instead of 1 cup and used 3 cups of pasta.

    Thank you!
