It’s grilling time!  I’m so excited. We have had some perfect weather for grilling and getting that charcoal smell in the air, not to mention the irresistible allure of Smithfield® Marinated Fresh Pork.  I love making ribs. They are super easy to grill, especially with Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St Louis Style Ribs. I chose to BBQ St Louis Style, because I wanted to create a simple, but robust dish that pays tribute to a St Louis staple, the slinger.

This recipe is a sure fire win.  Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St. Louis Style Ribs are my secret weapon to get perfect ribs every time.  Quality of meat matters, which is why always use Smithfield® Marinated Fresh Pork and so do Championship Pitmasters in their competitions and in the backyard.  You don’t have to be experienced on the grill, when you cook with Smithfield® Marinated Fresh Pork. It always comes out more tender and juicy.

Grilling Ribs is Easy

You don’t have to be afraid to grill ribs.  All it takes is patience and some good hot coals.  Here are a few tips:

  • Stack your coals in a pyramid, so when they are white hot you can easily distribute them to create an even base.  Leave a bit of room so the ribs do not go directly over the coals.
  • When the coals are white hot place the grill on top and scrub with the grill brush.  Make sure you wear thick gloves to protect you from the heat. Grease the grill with vegetable oil using a paper towel.
  • Place the ribs bone side down on the grill and cover.  Let sit for an hour.
  • Brush with your desired sauce and then cover again for at least five minutes.
  • Check the the pork is cooked through to a temperature of 145 degrees fahrenheit.

My Slinger Deconstruction

Smithfield® Fresh Pork is perfect any night on the grill, but I made this night extra special with my take on a St. Louis favorite, the slinger.  You can get everything you need for this dish and for all your grill nights at your local Walmart.

To accompany my St. Louis style pork ribs I cooked up some chili and made some toast.  I also cooked up some fries. I recommend an air fryer if you’ve got one, otherwise you can just bake them on a cookie sheet in the oven. I set my toast on a nest of shoestring fries, ladeld chili over all of it and topped the whole thing with a single egg over easy.  It was a big platter, but we have some big appetites in this family, and the ribs were so good we didn’t have any leftovers.
