So about a week ago I was thinking about whipping up something for dinner – I thought pizza but I did not want to make dough or buy dough. So I thought what about bread BUT I did not want it to be boring so I thought what about making it a grilled cheese sandwich with pizza ingredients! I made it and Mr.Savvy enjoyed it so much I had to take a video — he finished the first of 4 sandwiches standing up! Oh and did I mention it is SUPER SIMPLE to make. You really can use anything that you would place on a pizza ( like veggies ;) )

What You Need

Slices of Bread  — ( I made some for myself using Gluten Free Bread ( worked great) )

Slices of Mozzarella Cheese

Pepperoni

Fresh Basil- cut very fine

Pizza Sauce

Butter

What To Do

Generously butter one side of the slices of bread.

Place 1 Tablespoon of Pizza Sauce on each slice of bread.

Place Cheese, Pepperoni, and Basil

Make a Sandwich by putting the two slices together.

Place sandwich on a skillet over medium heat.

Cook till cheese has melted – make sure to flip the sandwich.

Enjoy!

This is a good idea – we will have to try… although one thing that I normally do with regular grilled cheese – so I can make more than one at a time – is make them on my George Forman grill. It’s also faster and cooks both sides at once..I have impatient kids..I can make 4 grilled cheeses at once….

Mmmm, pizza! Put that thing on a whole wheat sandwich thin or in an Ezekiel 4:9 pita pocket and bet it’s a pretty healthy (and good) meal the kids will actually eat. I’ll have to look for the Turkey pepperoni – seems a much better alternative! :)

I made these last night for the crew (1 wife, 4 kids, 1 niece and 1 nephew plus myself) and it was a HUGE hit.

I made them in the oven 12 at a time using two jelly roll pans and they came out perfect. I also added a bit of Italian seasoning to the butter on the outside.

My mom makes these all the time because all my brother would eat as a kid was pizza. She had to come up with stuff like this just to get him to eat :)

My wife can’t do pizza sauce because of tomato and GERD issues. She loves pizza. Any suggestions.

Made this tonight for dinner & LOVED it! I did use Texas Toast, which made a thicker sandwich. Next time, I will add some finely chopped onions, peppers, and black olives to the middle…. This was totally filling!
