Why It’s Okay To Indulge Yourself Once In A While

Sharing is caring!

We live in a world that tells us that we have to perpetually delay gratification. And yet, that’s precisely the opposite of how most people live their financial lives. Many are trapped in a pattern of spending, living paycheck to paycheck, never even getting the remotest sniff of financial freedom.

It seems that in this discussion, there’s no happy middle ground. The whole point of earning money is to have fun. And yet, the narrative is always prudence, prudence, prudence. Money is a serious matter with lots of serious people wearing serious suits telling us precisely what we should do with it.

In this post, we’re not saying that you should spend how you like and not care about tomorrow. But we are saying that it’s okay to indulge yourself every few months so that you’re not always focusing on the future.

Life Is Short

Oh, you’ve probably heard this one said a thousand times. But life is super short (especially if you’re having fun). That’s why waiting for tomorrow is a fool’s game. If there’s something you want now and you feel it’s the right time in your life to do it, then go and take it. You probably won’t be able to go for a trek through the jungle when you’re in your seventies, so doing it now makes sense.

You Get Something Of Value

Do you ever get the feeling that everything you buy is just old tat? Tatty clothes, tatty shoes, tatty homeware – most of the time you feel like you’re just working to buy cheap junk.

Splurging, however, allows you to access rare moments of quality in your life. Grand Seiko watches on WatchBox, for instance, won’t fall apart after a few months like so many cheaper brands. When you splurge, you get something that has genuine value and will really work.

You Probably Deserve It

If you’ve been working hard for months on end, then you probably deserve a bit of a splurge. After all, you’ve built up the money to pay for it. Society in a sense owes you for all your hard work.

You Get Out Of A “Need” Mentality

Many of us go through life only buying the things that we “need.” It sounds like a good philosophy until you unpack it a little more deeply. Splurging isn’t about excess. It’s just about finding ways to live your life joyfully. Technically speaking, all you need is food and shelter. But, because you are a human being with such tremendous capacities, that can feel like a bit of a waste. You want more from your life than that – and rightly so!

It Cuts Stress

Stress is the bane of the modern world. But splurging on stuff that you don’t necessarily need can actually help take some of it away. Imagine going to a spa hotel for the weekend. By the end of that experience, you’re going to feel relaxed, refreshed and on top of the world.

So next time you go shopping, don’t be afraid to indulge yourself a little.
