Can I substitute splenda for the white sugar?

This looks good! Question – have you ever tried the crock pot liners? I have been using them but I sometimes feel that my food tastes kind of ‘plasticy’ or off…I was wondering if anyone else experienced that (this is usually with long cooking items like roasts and stews). Thanks!

I have never used crock pot liners. I know the pain of cleaning a crock pot after a long stew and it is not pretty BUT at least my food is yummy :)

I was told if you spray the pot with like “pam” stuff it makes it easier to clean

Did you have to use an immersion blender to get the texture smooth or does it naturally cook down to it?

I have made this a number of times and it has always come out great. I use Splenda, because I have diabetes and my husband and family don’t know the difference. I slice the apples instead of cutting them up that way after about 3 hours I can take out a bowl of hot tasty apples and top it with ice cream YUM!
Once it is all cooked down I put it in canning jars and put the lids on and wait till I hear the ping of the seal, then put them up till they are ready to use. Great for gifts also. It can be served as applesause, or on toast, pancakes.

Do you not have to put them in a pressure cooker?

No you don’t need a pressure cooker for this recipe. The crockpot does it all, another question was do you need an immersion blender. No you don’t need that either. They cook down to a soft applesauce texture. You might find some pieces or chunks, but not many and they can be mashed with a fork or eaten as is. I did stir mine about every 3 or 4 hrs though, so I could taste it, so yummy.

Silly question – is it 2 1/4 lbs apples before they are peeled/cored or after? Thanks!

I canned a similar apple butter recipe using a water bath canning method. It worked great … I gave it as a Christmas gift to friends … they loved it. I can’t imagine why this recipe couldn’t be canned successfully.

Silly question can the cinnamon and nutmeg be changed to a different ingredient? I’m not big on either one of those but would live to make this. Thanks !!!!

I make a similar recipe …. think mine is easier tho….put apples in crock cover cook for 12 hrs….stir add sugar, cinnamon….cook an additional 12 hours..I do not stir but only at the 12 hour time period….my secret ingredient to make mine xtra special in flavor is I add red hots to the apples with the other spices….mmmmmmmm….my husband thinks the very best!!! Not bland like store bought brands….
