Broken Oven Saga – Part 2

If you missed the first part of the story – go HERE

So we had a working oven. But then the weirdest thing happened. One day a couple weeks ago I heard the oven randomly turn itself on – this was during nap time so I know none of the kids could have turned it on.

The weird thing is the display simply says the time and not that the oven was “on”. But you could feel the heat the hear it – it had to be around 350. The oven’s heating element was recently replaced so there must be something wrong. The worst is that there is no way to turn off the oven once it is on. I pressed the off button which did nothing. I waited for like 10 minutes and it finally turned off.

So a oven that turns on by itself is a problem so we called the oven repair company – and their voicemail is what we got. It was Friday so we are hoping to hear back on Monday.

What should we do at this point? Use another service and send the bill to the original service company?

I have that same oven and we had the matching microwave and our microwave would turn on by itself. I sure hope our oven doesn’t start doing it too.

That’s crazy, but we once had a microwave that kicked on by itself. What caused it to kick on was a power surge from the electric company. Is your oven electric? If so that might be a possibility. By rights when a power surge like that happens your electric breaker should kick off, but once in a while they don’t. However, it is doing it often I doubt it is just power surges and more likely something wrong with the computerized part of your oven/stove. This is dangerous and could lead to a fire, so if you can’t get the company to reply back to your email in a day, email then again and tell them you’ll hire another company and send them the bill for that since their work should be warrantied.
