What may be a new concept to you is the idea of becoming a digital nomad.

The obvious question is what exactly is a digital nomad and what is Croatia offering?

Here is a look at what’s behind the concept of Croatia’s Digital Nomad Residence Permit and how you can apply for temporary residency in this amazing country.

Digital nomad status explained

The clue is in the title. In effect, a digital nomad is someone who would be classified as a third-country national and the digital aspect of the status is to do with the fact that in order to qualify for this residency permit you need to be working in communication technology.

Technology has now made it entirely possible for you to work almost anywhere on the planet. That means if you want to leave the office behind and earn your living whilst staying in a destination that offers, amazing beaches, great scenery, and a year-round holiday vibe, you might want to take a look at what Croatia has to offer.

What is Croatia offering?

Croatia offers you the chance to apply for a digital nomad residence permit that allows you to stay for up to a year. This means you can work, rest, and play in a part of Europe that offers enviable scenery and beats working in an office all day long.

In fact, such is the interest in the scheme that a new village in Croatia has been launched that is specifically aimed at attracting digital nomads to come and work there.

The port town of Zardar is the sort of holiday destination that you are reluctant to leave when your holiday comes to an end. The good news is that if you achieve digital nomad status, you don’t have to, for up to a year.

How do you apply?

If the idea of obtaining this residency status appeals to you, here are some of the key points that you need to know for when you complete the application process.

You can submit your application for a digital nomad residence permit in person or fill in Form 1A online, which is a bilingual application that can be completed in English or Croatian.

You will need to supply details of your valid travel documents that are valid for at least three months longer than the duration of your intended stay. You will also be required to submit evidence that you have valid health insurance that gives you cover for the Republic of Croatia.

The application also asks you to provide evidence of your ability to sustain yourself financially during your stay and proof of purpose is also needed. This is confirmation of your contract of employment or details of your company if you run your own business.

Once you have been approved you will be issued with a biometric residence permit on arrival into the country.

Then you can start to take advantage of all the attractions that Croatia has to offer once you have become a digital nomad.
