Irish whiskey is one of our favourite liquors to add to desserts. It is right at the top of our list, along with rum, brandy, and red wine. The light and fruity taste of the whiskey means that it pairs great with many different flavours like chocolate, coffee, apple, cream, and many more. A more aged whiskey can also lend your desserts a delicious undertone of smokiness and caramelisation.

Let’s take a look at three delicious desserts made with Irish whiskey that you absolutely have to try!

Irish Coffee Pudding

Coffee and Irish whiskey is a simple but classic combination. The rich bitter taste of coffee, along with the smoky and warm whiskey, brings out an elevated taste and is so delicious that almost any whiskey or coffee lover would enjoy it immensely. A pudding is a simple dessert that focuses on the different tastes without any fanfare of an elaborately made dish.

To make an Irish coffee pudding, you will need the following ingredients:

  •       One tablespoons cornstarch
  •       1/8 cup brown sugar
  •       A pinch of salt
  •       One cup heavy cream
  •       1/2 tablespoon instant coffee powder
  •       Two tablespoons Irish whiskey

In a small pot, whisk together the brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Add in the heavy cream and bring it to a low boil. Once the mixture has thickened, add the coffee powder and whiskey, and remove the pot from the heat. Pour the mixture into serving bowls and allow them to chill in the fridge for about 2-3 hours. Once chilled, you can top the pudding with some whipped cream.

This is a super easy recipe that uses common ingredients you most probably have at home. It takes around 15 minutes of prep time and serves 2. Make sure to give the Irish coffee pudding a try!

Apple Crumble with Irish Whiskey

Apple crumble is a great way to enjoy apple pie but with less effort and precision. You can enjoy the fresh apples, the cinnamon, and the buttery pastry without the worry of rolling out the perfect pie crust. In fact, the only thing that makes apple crumble any better is adding some Irish whiskey to it.

To make an apple crumble with Irish whiskey, you will need the following ingredients:

  •       Six tablespoons butter
  •       3/4 cup flour
  •       1/2 cup chopped pecans
  •       1/2 cup brown sugar
  •       A pinch of salt
  •       Four large apples chopped
  •       1/4 cup granulated sugar
  •       One tablespoon ground cinnamon
  •       Two tablespoons Irish whiskey
  •       Juice of 1/2 a lemon

In a bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients flour, pecans, salt, and brown sugar. Add in melted butter to form your crumble. Add your chopped apples with cinnamon, sugar, lemon juice, and whiskey to a baking dish. Make sure all the apples are well coated. Spread them into an even layer and pour over your crumb mixture. Put the baking dish in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

This delicious apple crumble recipe takes around 30 minutes of prep time and serves 4. You can add some vanilla ice cream or some fresh heavy cream on the side.

Honey Whiskey Popcorn

This dessert is a little different from the more classic desserts but is definitely worth a try. It is super easy to make and can also be had as a sweet after-dinner snack.

To make honey whiskey Popcorn, you will need the following ingredients:

  •       1/2  cup popcorn kernels
  •       1/4 cup oil
  •       1/4 cup honey
  •       Two tablespoons Irish whiskey
  •       One teaspoon vanilla essence
  •       A pinch of flakey salt

Add your preferred oil into a pot on medium-high heat. Test out a few kernels of popcorn to see if the oil is hot enough. Once they pop, add in the rest of your kernels and cover the pot with a lid. When the popping stops, remove the pot from the heat and set it aside. In a large bowl, mix together the honey, whiskey, and vanilla essence. Add the popcorn to the bowl and ensure all the popcorn is evenly coated with the honey and whiskey mixture. Sprinkle on some flakey salt and enjoy your popcorn!

This recipe takes about 15 minutes to make and is very easy to manage. The bowl of popcorn serves 8.
