This is one of my most requested recipe. The mac and cheese is completely from scratch — super delish. The topping added that extra something 🙂

What You Need

  • 1 (4 ounce) bag white cheddar kettle-style potato chips, crushed into medium-fine crumbs
  • 1/3 cup of seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon butter – melted
  • 4 cups prepared white sauce
  • 12 oz cup elbow macaroni or similar pasta uncooked
  • 8 oz sharp Cheddar cheese – Shredded
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard

White Sauce

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 Teaspoon of pepper
  • 1/4 Teaspoon of Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon of Onion Powder

What To Do

 White Sauce
Melt butter in a large skillet. Stir in flour and cook for 5 minutes — keep stirring.
Add 2 cups of cold milk slowly. Mix. The mixture will be a little lumpy it is okay 😉
Stir in rest of milk and ingredients. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
Mac and Cheese
Cook pasta until the pasta is al dente ( should be a little firm)
In a bowl combine – chips, bread crumbs and butter. You can either cook them on a skillet over medium heat or bake them in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes.

To the white sauce add the cheddar cheese. Add it in slowly. Add mustard. Mix in cooked pasta.

Place Mac and Cheese either in a large casserole dish or individual bowls.

Top with toasted potato chip topping
