How To Clean Your Makeup Brush
It’s quick, easy, and cheap. All you need is a dirty makeup brush, a tablespoon of vinegar, and water. Mix together HOT water and a tablespoon of vinegar and let your brush soak for 15-20 minutes. Next do a hot/cold rinse, first rinse in hot water, then in cold. Pat your brush, dry and enjoy a clean make up brush! This way of cleaning your brush disinfects it, dissolves built up makeup, and is very inexpensive.

Equal parts Extra virgin Olive Oil and Dish soap, brush back and forth on a plate until completely clean. Rinse with warm water and let the brushes dry upside down.

I use shampoo to clean mine. I put about an inch of hot water and a squirt of shampoo in a glass, then swirl around my brushes in the glass, repeating until the water is clean. Then I rinse the brushes to remove any soap residue, squeeze out excess water with a towel, and lay on a towel to dry.

The shampoo leaves the bristles nice and soft.

If you have cheap makeup brushes go the cheap way in cleaning them. If you have nice makeup brushes made with real hair DO NOT clean them this way. Cosmetic counter brushes are meant to last you for years that is why they recommend you purchasing an actual brush cleaner. The cleaner is developed to desolve the makeup and make your brushes like new. Shampoo doesn’t break down the makeup and the way listed above will only make your bristles fall out over time. I’ve had my brush set for over 5 years. My brush cleaner ($12.50) has lasted me over two years, and when I clean my brushes they feel like the first time I used them.

GET THE MAKEUP BRUSH CLEANER BY BARE MINERALS. IT’S CALLED WELL CARED FOR-BRUSH CONDITIONING SHAMPOO. USE THAT 1-2 TIMES A MONTH. THEN ALSO GET A SPRAY BRUSH CLEANER FOR IN BETWEEN…TO GET DARK SHADOW OFF…KILLS GERMS!!!, AS TO NOT MIX YESTERDAYS SHADOW CHOICES WITH THE NEXT DAY…ETC. AND YOU REALLY NEED TO INVEST IN REALLY GOOD QUALITY BRUSHES. THEY LAST FOR EVER AND KEEP THEIR SHAPE. MAKE YOUR MAKEUP LOOK BETTER AND DON’T EVER USE THOSE DOUBLE TINY SPONGE TIPPED BRUSHES THAT COME WITH 99% OF EYESHADOWS. HIGH END MAKEUP LIKE THE URBAN DECAY NAKED PALETTES COME WITH A GOOD BRUSH. BUT YOU STILL NEED A SHADOW LINER BRUSH, A BLENDING BRUSH ETC. THE BEST BRUSHES ARE BY BARE MINERALS AND SIGMA. WITH SIGMA…GET THE STARTER KIT. COOL COLORS TOO. I’M A CERTIFIED MAKEUP ARTIST. MUCH LOVE!!!

I’ve always used a low irritant face wash (like Cetafil) – a couple of pumps in my hand and brush back and forth, rinsing with water until it’s clean. What better way to wash make up brushes then with make up remover?

i like all the tips on here. the different suggestions all make sense. i fortunately (or unfortunately, can’t tell) have cheapish brushes so this method would probably work pretty good.

but if i had real hair brushes i would probably buy a cleaner. thanks!!
